A RETURN TO ELEGANCE

After a very long hiatus and absence on our social media presence, New Edit can safely say we have returned. We have returned to bring back a little elegance to the world of fashion and style. Our philosophy has always been dedicated to that idea of elegance and glamour, a sort of je ne sais quoi that certain designers, photographers and supermodels have attained, from the past and even now... that encapsulate our vision of style. It can be contemporary or vintage fashion, avant garde style photographers or classic portrait artists, or even a classic Grecian model such as Dovima, or someone more "edgy" like Cara Delavingne. It doesn't matter - we love style!

(Dovima - the quintessential 1950's beauty captured perfectly here by Richard Avedon, and the contemporary chameleon of supermodels, Cara Delavigne, taken here by Mario Testino for Vogue UK.)

Attainability has also been our goal with New Edit, and the idea of being a sort of online magazine (with our blog, facebook and Instagram) combining our vision and love for fashion, we endevour to bring this to people in a way that they can relate to, especially, and also feel they could attain what some may see as archaic elegance, but for us it is timeless... eternal.
With this blog, we hope to go further with our experience, and bring our philosophy a little closer to fashion lovers out there. Not specifically a trend forecast, or speaking particular about certain pieces of clothing, but more so focus on designers, iconic moments in fashion from past and up to today. Not only will we speak about fashion and its aesthetic, but also about those that work tirelessly behind the scenes to make it so, those behind the camera - iconic photographers such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino and many more.

(The faces of fashion from the 1950's 'till now - left to right: Jean Patchett by Irving Penn, Jean 'The Shrimp' Shrimpton by William Klein, Marisa Berenson by Irving Penn, The 1990's supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford by Peter Lindbergh, Gisele Bundchen by Patrick Demarchelier, and finally Gigi Hadid by Mario Testino)

As well as those in front of the camera, the mannequin's  whom showcase the beautiful clothes... the muses of photographers.... the supermodels. It is no secret that I personally adore supermodels, specially those who captured a moment in time, and those who became an icon for their era. Starting with the very first supermodels, such as Lisa Fonssagrives, Jean Patchett and Dovima, I shall personally oversee the blog posts dedicated to these iconic beauty's. Up until the swinging 60's with Twiggy and The Shrimp, through to the groovy 70s such as Marisa Berenson and Lauren Hutton, and the late 80s where the term supermodel took on a different level of cultural identity. The likes of Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and CIndy Crawford, ignited the industry and became household names, with help from the now poignant and stunning video for George Michel's number one song Freedom '90. The early 00's bought us the likes of a new wave of supermodels, the game changers, those who became celebrity's in their own right, with the help of endorsement, television specials or hosting shows such as America's Next Top Model, and dating rock stars and famous actors, The likes of Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss and Stella Tenant were able to carve out their own name in a new way, that made their platform even ore important for brands, and even charities for many used their new icon status to bring a lot of attention to problems such as UNICEF. Nowadays, the supermodels have become world stars, whose income and pedestal sometimes eclipse the designers they parade the catwalk for. The likes of sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, and reality TV personality Kendell Jenner have re-imagined what it is to be a modern young women and how to be successful, not only with their looks but their philanthropy and brand identities. This is something that will feature heavily on this blog, as these are the faces that push fashion forward. These are the women who transcended the vanity of magazine covers and instagram post likes, but were able to shape themselves into something more than just a 'hanger for clothes' - superstars who are equally worshiped as much as they are criticized.

This is what you could call our 'forecast editors letter' for this blog. We are not going to focus on segments to do specifically with beauty, culture and items such as these, that you would generally see in a fashion magazine, as on a blog we are restricted as to what we can publish. But, we shall make a conceited effort to focus on fashion in a way that is both fresh, old and new - bringing the past to the present, and showcasing elegance in a new way.

To finish this blog post, it seems fitting to share some of my personal favourite photo's from years gone by by various photographers in summertime. As this British Summer seems to be the typical up and down with the weather, we are enjoying the hottest weather on record and lets hope it's to stay, at least by the end of August.
